Amazon.com Review Designed for inflating and deflating air mattresses and other inflatable items, this battery-operated pump makes the chore fast and easy. It works with Coleman double-lock and quick valves, Boston valves, and standard wide-opening valves, and is compatible with all Coleman mattresses as well most other inflatable products. (It does not, however, work with stem and needle valves such as those in basketballs, bike tires, etc.) The pump's side valve is for inflating; the top valve is for deflating. It requires four D-cell batteries (not included) and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
Product Description This Coleman® 4D QuickPump provides universal inflation of most products with the Coleman® Double Lock Valve, Boston valves or pinch valves.

Marginally Effective...Expensive To Operate August 27, 2010 John Hermanek Pump worked moderately well blowing up a standard size Coleman mattress in only a few minutes. When ostensibly filled with air, the pump started straining quite a bit and the firmness of the mattress ended up not really what I wanted.
The unit is underpowered but will do in a pinch. I am going to invest in an electric powered home pump with higher air output and save this pump for camping.
Also, the four Energizer Alkaline batteries cost over $6.00 and I don't know how many mattress fills the new batteries will blow. Might try to use rechargeable D's and see how that goes.
Defective product August 25, 2010 fairreviewr555 Bought one of these about a year or 2 ago. This spring, the motor went bad, it developed "asthma" as well, and only sputttered to life sporadicly. Checked all the connections , batteries and determined the problem was inside the motor. Figured this was a fluke and ordered another new pump this past spring. Installed the batts and the same exact thing, the motor races, then cuts out, then barely runs at all. Save your money and look elsewhere for a more reliable product. From what I see in the reviews here, Im not the only one who has had this problem either.
Coleman 4D Universal Quick Pump July 6, 2010 Sarah This is a great item for inflating my new Coleman Quickbed and my inflatable backyard pool. Quick and efficient both inflating and deflating. Compact size is a plus too.
Handy pump May 28, 2010 Steven F. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this along with an Ozark Trail twin-sized air mattress at the local big retail place.
I decided to go with this instead of the Coleman Rechargeable QuickPump Unit because I thought it would be easier to swap batteries than find a place to plug it in if it died while I'm camping, and since I plan to move overseas the rechargeable version might not work there.
I've been using it regularly the last few weeks, and it performs great. It fills up my mattress in under 3 minutes, and deflates it in under a minute.
When I first got it I used some "Heavy Duty" batteries, which are cheap, but as the label indicates aren't made for high-drain applications like pumps. It worked, but was pretty slow to inflate the bed and sounded a bit tired. I have a feeling this is the cause of some of the low-rated reviews.
I've since switched to AA eneloop batteries with D-sized adapters, from the eneloop Power Pack Kit, giving the performance stated above. This also has the benefit of reducing the weight of the pump considerably. I haven't run the AAs dry yet after inflating and deflating the bed at least 5 times, so it seems perfect for occasional use.
Terrible pump March 5, 2010 GB (NC) I bought this pump for my Coleman mattress (which also failed).
The pump worked slowly until the mattress was about 80% full, then slowed down, then stopped, with the mattress still being partially deflated. I could flip the switch off and on and nothing would happen. After a few minutes the pump could be turned back on. I think the tiny motor just kept overheating.
I returned the pump, thinking it was a lemon and got a new one, same model. The new one was even worse. Getting 2 bad pumps in a row, I doubt they were both lemons.
I don't recommend spending the money on this pump.
