Product Description
An ideal alternative to heavy, clumsy steel frame shelters that cost and weight too much, Paha Qué's Cottonwood 10 x 10 Shade Shelter is perfect for campsites, backyard barbeques, picnics, soccer games, tailgating, and hanging out at the beach. Very lightweight, the Cottonwood packs down to a compact 8 by 28 inches and comes with an oversized duffel-style carry bag. With a generous peak height and more than six feet of headroom in the corners, this user-friendly shelter can be set up in around five minutes on most ground conditions. Don't be fooled by it's light weight, as the Cottonwood Shade Shelter delivers high performance even in strong winds.

Supported with a heavy-duty 6000 series alloy aluminum shock-corded pole set, shock-cording keeps the pole segments together for ease of assembly. Continuous pole sleeves make inserting the poles a breeze while also eliminating the need for roof pole clips or snaps that tend to break, rendering your tent useless. The Cottonwood 10 x 10 comes complete with a full set of adjustable and reflective guylines two complete sets of ground stakes to accommodate any ground conditions you may encounter. Paha Qué's shelters also offer heavy high-quality fabric and superior UV protection while also providing up to 50 SPF.

About Paha Qué
Paha Qué Wilderness Inc. is a young and innovative company that makes high-quality family camping tents. Campers love them, but when they first see the name in print, they pause and wonder just how to pronounce it and try to understand its meaning. You won't find it in any dictionary and there have been debates amongst linguists about its derivation. According to the legend behind the term, Paha Qué is the Southwest Indian version of "Aloha." Paha Qué takes it to mean "happy trails." It can mean hello, good-bye, how are you, have a good day, and more. Perhaps a variation on the Spanish phrase Qué Pasa? The people at Paha Qué learned it from a local rancher friend whose grandpa learned it from local Indians. It boils down to the fact that the name is surely different, and appropriately so because these tents are very different from ordinary tents.

3 out of 5 stars Partial shade   August 7, 2010
Emma
This is a shelter with an attractive shape. It is strong; it flexes well with the wind. I am giving it three stars for a couple of reasons.

One, when you open it up you read the instructions: "Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun!" Okay, I guess it is most appropriate for providing shade from the moon.

Two, it doesn't provide that much shade. The sun shines right through. That was the first thing my family members mentioned. I ended up tying a heavy woven bedspread on top to get a decent amount of shade and temperature reduction.

Also note you can't get the blue color anymore. It seems to only come in orange.

2 out of 5 stars Way too many pieces   May 14, 2007

Far too many poles and bits and pieces to set it up!

Took the beach on first day, took it out of the box and realized it was going to take forever for 2 of us to set up. Had to pack it back up and return it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   January 12, 2007

We live in Arizona and my daughter plays competitive soccer, so we've been using this shelter every weekend since we received it. It's very easy to set up and take down (it's quick once you've done it once or twice), it's durable yet much lighter than other shelters of its size, and it's vey convenient to have it roll up in the easy carry bag. All the other team parents like it better than the "standard" ones that you often see around the fields, and frankly it's pretty cool-looking. Only two minor points, which may or may not be an issue: first, one person really can't set it up alone -- you need two; second, it doesn't have the option of adding a side panel, which would come in handy when the sun is low. Neither of these is an issue for us, and thus my 5-star rating, but the side panel would really have been a bonus since here we still use it all winter long.

5 out of 5 stars Parha Que is a Winner - Sun Shade / Rain Shelter   November 9, 2006

The Parha Que Cottonwood is a wonderful design. The flexible poles are shock-corded and easily slip into place. Once the shade is stretched into place and staked to the ground, it is very secure and withstands gusty wind. It is so light weight that I have no problem carrying it when packed up. The amount of shelter is just large enough to protect from the sun or rain. My first six outings with it make me hopeful that this shelter will be durable for many years to come. It is a great addition to the camping gear.
I have purchased a whole series of competitor products to essentially create a sun shade and rain shelter to use while camping. The others have either bent or broken in the wind. The last two were extremely heavy to lift into the back of the truck and I pinched my fingers more than once on set-up and pack-up. (Despite the heavy construction, the hinged joints bent and broke in the wind.)

5 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Home Without It!   August 17, 2006

I purchased this sun shelter for my family's vacation on the Outer Banks of NC. It was over a hundred degrees that week and being outside would have been prohibitive without this shelter. It was a huge success. Although it was easy to put up, we decided to leave it up for the entire week -- including overnight. Even the breezes of the Outer Banks couldn't blow this thing down. Special note: I purchased 17 inch, sturdy anchors to keep it secure. The short, dainty anchors included with the shelter would not have worked in the sand.
